The Murray Bushrangers TAC CUP squad will commence their 2016 campaign this Sunday 15 November at the Wangaratta Sports Development Centre. Over 100 players from across the region will participate in the pre-season as the club prepares for what is the premier junior football competition in the country.
Murray Bushrangers High Performance Manager Matt Glossop has developed the pre-season program and is looking forward to the first session. “It’s great to catch up with the players and the coaches and set some early standards. “We’ll go through a battery of tests to build a solid athletic profile on each of the players and compare them with our benchmarks.”
Glossop stressed the professionalism required to participate in the pre-season program “It will be interesting to see how the returning boys present, while we give them time to get away from football; we certainly expect that they arrive in a satisfactory condition”. “The program they were given over the off-season was a little different; we backed off the running loads and used the opportunity to work on their strength base along with some cross-training for variety”.
“There will be a number of players we haven’t seen before and history tells us there will be some raw, athletic potential there to work with. It’s only the first day, but it’s still an opportunity for them to put their hand up and show us they can compete at the next level”
The Murray Bushrangers have acquired state of the art testing equipment that will analyse speed, power & endurance. Players will also be put through the AFL combine kicking & clean hands test to get specific details on how each player measures up with elite talent across the country.
The session will commence at 9.00am at the Wangaratta Sports Development Centre with testing taking place at the Wangaratta Sports & Aquatic Centre.
